Garrett Oliver’s New Initiative to Diversify Craft Brewing

Updated: Feb 19, 2021

Great initiative from one of the forefathers in this craft beer industry! Garrett Oliver, brewmaster at Brooklyn Brewery in Brooklyn, announced the Michael Jackson Foundation's formation for Brewing and Distilling. This scholarship fund, named after the late beer and whiskey writer Michael James Jackson, will offer people of color scholarship opportunities to further their education in the brewing and distilling industries. "The mission of the MJF is to open doors for people of color within the United States brewing and distilling industries by providing scholarships to accredited brewing and distilling technical courses and a level of mentorship that will help our awardees become industry leaders of the future" Oliver stated via Twitter.

We hope that this initiative will get the support and funding that the program will need to thrive, and we will be watching this evolve. For more information, please check out Garrett Oliver on Twitter, of course, and follow him on IG @IGarrettOliver and @mjfbrewdistill
